Silver Springs State Park Equine Trail History

In 2005 a couple of Friends of the Silver River were dedicated to opening horse trails on the north side of the river. Kathy Mattson and Carol Perez were instrumental in beginning the initiative to open the horse trails.

Friends of Silver Springs State Park are people and business with diverse interests, but all have a common thread: they care about the natural resources that are available at Silver Springs State Park.

Friends consist of people from all levels of activities, bike riders, boaters, equestrians, campers, dog walkers, parents, grandparents all enjoy the tremendous resources Silver Springs State Park offers.

We welcome you to explore the breathtaking beauty of Silver Springs State Park. The untouched, natural landscape gives our visitors an unique opportunity to see what the real Florida looked like many centuries ago.

Join us for one of our volunteer days, an event,  become a member, and or make a donation.

Up Coming Events

  • March 10 - Let's meet at the Appleton Museum of Art (, 4333 E. Silver Springs Blvd, at 4:00 PM on Thursday, March 10, 2016, to view the exhibit "Paradise Park Remembered: Photographs by Bruce Mozert and Others".   For 15 or more of us, the group rate of $5 will apply, otherwise admission is $6.  Then join us for refreshments at 5:30 prior to our meeting in the Silver River Museum Classroom, using the SR 35/Baseline Road entrance to Silver Springs State Park. 

  • March 19-20 Florida SpringsFest 2016:

Springs education and activity programs, entertainment, including music and shows, beautiful art exhibits.  FREE Glass Bottom boat Rides to the first 1,000 visitors each day with regular park admission | $8 per carload up to 6 people.

  • April 2 - Saturday - 9th Annual Bluegrass in the Park: It will be even bigger this year, 5 bands instead of 3, hours from 10 A.M. - 5 P.M.  This event is held in the Cracker Village   on the River side of the Park (SR 35 Entrance).

  • Springside Café, at Silver Springs State Park,is undergoing a facelift. Staff and Volunteers have been actively painting and prepping! If you have any of following items for donation it would be appreciated: Wooden Chairs with none or limited cushions, Wooden Stools, Wooden Tables or other Table Tops, or other table and chair combinations.

If you have items that you are willing to donate please let me know and we can set it up! Donations are tax deductible and a copy of the donation form will be given to you. is best for communication but you can also reach me at 352-286-8283.

  • Volunteers are needed for the cracker villages from 10:00 to 11:30 A.M. The Museum also needs weekend volunteers. Contact Info: 352-236-5401


  • CSO members may participate in numerous volunteer projects and join in for special events. All membership dues and donations are used toward the betterment of the Silver Springs State Park.

  • Help Wanted:  FSSSP Membership Committee is seeking interested, self-motivated members to join us for our second year of accomplishments.  We continue to seek ideas and plans for 1) Member Support and 2) Promoting the Park and our CSO.  Responsibilities include attending monthly meetings on the third Wednesday at 3 PM, usually in the SAUPP Center, and organizing refreshments for one general meeting.   Apply in person to any current committee member or via email with any questions to
