2020 Accomplishments

Members of the FSSSP Board of Directors present Park Manager, Sally Lieb, with 2 golf carts to help lighten the load at Silver Springs State Park

Hey Friends!  Despite that bad boy, C-Virus, we were able to achieve A LOT for our beloved Park in 2020.  Kudos to all our leaders, volunteers and Rangers for their devotion to overcoming obstacles and for their creativity in devising solutions!   And to all our members and sponsors, for sticking with us through thick and thin!  Without all of us doing our part together, we would not have had the manpower, financial resources and problem-solving chops needed to make the most of this challenging year.   Here’s a list of some of our collective accomplishments.

TOGETHER WE:

  • Hosted that old perennial favorite, Pancakes in the Park, in late winter to feed about 100 patrons at the Springside pavilion.
  • Bought a Penny Press machine to give Park goers some very cool souvenirs…..a penny pressed with an image of a manatee, glass-bottom-boat, turtle or gator.
  • Purchased a video monitor for our Welcome Center to give visitors info on all the ways they can enjoy our Park.
  • Funded the completion of a giant mural to beautify the Osceola Pad and enhance the Park visitor experience.
  • Purchased not one but two golf carts and 10 radios to help Park staff get their work done.
  • Arranged for an outside vendor to install and maintain a new washer and dryer for campers, with the Friends receiving 51% of the net revenues.
  • Bought vests for River Patrol members to make them more easily identifiable to paddlers and boaters.
  • Are building a giant chess set to be installed by the Mammoth Deck for the pleasure of Park patrons
  • Paid for materials to renovate the Block Building into a new volunteer recreation hall.
If we were able to do all of this during such a tough year, imagine what we can do together next year!

Marianne Marcoux, Cindy McCambridge and Pancakes in the Park chair, Norm Yeagle serve up pancakes and sausage with big smiles.

David Rossiter, Walter Nickerson and Ranger Ruth Fletcher do a great job maintaining our new penny press machine.

Behold the new turtle and magnolia mural on the Osceola Pad…. made possible by the FSSSP!

Friend Barbara Toeppen-Sprigg's brainchild….a monitor with timely info on Park features to help orient Patrons.

Friend Walter Nickerson shows Prez David Rossiter his latest wood-working creation…..a super sized lawn chess set for the enjoyment of Park patrons.
