Capturing the Beauty of Nature

by Joyce Weber

We all know that photos allow us to retain a precious moment in time. We have a volunteer in our midst that is a professional in the field of photography.  Her name is Bonnie and she came in swinging her camera a little over two years ago.  Silver Springs Park has been lucky to have Bonnie assist in capturing the beauty of the Park.

Bonnie arrived in Ocala in 1980, along with her delightful husband, Britt.  Bonnie and Britt married in 2011, finding each other through the adventure shared in photography.  They appeared at a volunteer meeting over two years ago, with cameras in hand.  Bonnie wanted our guests to see the Park in a different way.  Bonnie was willing to share her expertise behind a lens with our guests.  Britt enhanced the experience with his vast knowledge of wildlife and technical skills.

Bonnie, and Britt approached Ranger Craig with their concept of providing free guided walking tours to our guests. Craig  saw the tremendous value to our guests and moved forward with their request.  In a short period of time it was approved and ready for implementation.  They volunteered their time on Saturdays twice a month with the offer of tours twice daily.

Bonnie's love of the outdoors is obvious in both her demeanor and her photos.  She not only offers photography tours but also volunteers for the Aquatic Motor Patrol for a different view of wildlife.  She has a passion for photographing our Florida State Parks because they are such a wonderful option to enjoy nature.  One of her most enjoyable experiences has been watching the otters romp in the river.  She has been able to photograph them so that others can also enjoy the wildlife.

When Bonnie is not busy at Silver Springs State Park she can be found in many other places.   She photographs everything from military balls and real estate parcels to various wildlife moments for the FWC.  Currently she is involved with the eagle watch offered by the state.

Bonnie's training has been in the field, a place where she is comfortable in any setting.  Her secrets for the perfect photograph are shutter speed and "spray and pray", a technique to guarantee fantastic results.  If you want to know more about her secrets, please join Bonnie and Britt as they introduce a brand new approach.  She will be offering guided tours on documenting travel photos in the near future. Where can you find Bonnie?  You can find her right behind the biggest lens in the park.
